Katie and Nick met in 2015 at her cousin’s bridal shower. They started dating shortly after, and had a long-distance relationship for the first few months while Katie was finishing up her Bachelor’s degree. On a long weekend getaway to Williamsburg, VA, they had plans to have pictures taken together in Colonial Williamsburg, but due to Hurricane Matthew, the session got canceled. Instead, Nick asked a family nearby to take a picture of the two of them at the Governor’s Palace. Katie was shocked when he got down on one knee to propose. They celebrated at a quaint French restaurant nearby.
Her piece of advice:
“Trust the process! Once you start planning then slowly everything will start to come together. It may not seem like it at first, but it will. Use your resources and go to bridal fairs. We found out about some of our vendors through other ones that we were using. Please give yourself plenty of time to get ready. If I could do it over again then I would have had my bridesmaids get there an hour earlier to get ready. It went by so fast. Keep up with thank you notes! You will thank yourself later when you have to write all the ones for the presents you receive at the wedding. Hire a videographer! We were debating it for a while and I’m so glad we decided to get one. I missed so much of the day and now I’m happy that I will have the opportunity to watch the day again. It might not be traditional, but my husband and I stayed the night before together. We woke up pretty early and watched the sunrise before we got married later that day. It was a very special moment that I’m glad we got to spend together before we went our separate ways.”
